Colleges provide information about themselves through their website, pamphlets and handouts, admissions counselor visits, and campus visits.

These are informative, but ultimately meant to sell you on their product: a degree from them.

Reading critically will allow you to make the best decision for yourself. Here’s how.

There are four major sections of any university’s website:

  • Academics: degrees and study options
  • Admissions/Future Students: applications, admissions counselor contacts, visit opportunities, class profiles
  • Financial Aid: cost of attendance, merit-based scholarships, work-study programs
  • Student Life: housing and food, student organizations, athletics
