The painting that I did shows a lot of my emotions even though it doesn’t show them clearly. I use a lot of red, yellow and black in my art. I started off my capstone painting with a yellow background and that indicates my happiness and joy. When you look at it, you can barely see the yellow background because there's so much covering it up. All of the other colors that are covering up the yellow are different emotions and feelings overshadowing my happiness. That’s something that I don’t show a lot but really need too. Art has helped me alot. For as long as I can remember I was always painting or drawing on something. Being born with a physical disability, I'm not as active or able to move around easily. So when I was younger I spent a lot of time inside expressing myself through the art that I created. It's something that makes me really happy to do. When I don’t feel well mentally I usually start painting. When I want to paint I just let my hands move and do whatever. I never usually have a plan. I just let my hands, how I'm feeling and my brush do all of the work. There's so much I love about art. Mixing paint , the different colors of the paint water, paint on my hands, wondering when and how paint got on my face, and the joy I got from it. There is no right or wrong way to make art and I try to think about that everytime that I paint. Everyone has their own ways of doing things, feeling things, understanding things and reacting to things. Your art doesn't have to look like the next persons. I just have fun when I paint and go with the flow of things. I've been through alot in my life for me to have only been on this earth for seventeen years. But I look at that as seventeen years worth of knowledge, and emotion that I could turn into art. I have handled situations really well but sometimes there are days it just all really hits me. But I'm really happy to say that making art has helped me so much mentally and as for a long time and it's something that I'll continue doing.

How It Began

A video of me talking about black lives matter and doing art with that.

How It Changed

I did completely change my capstone idea. I decided to just do how making art has helped me so much mentally in my life. It did turn out how i imagined it and im really happy with the end result.

Reflection

I learned to just have fun with it. At first I was stressing about it not being good enough and that's why I took so long. But once I just decided to do what I really needed to, it got easier.
